At Marlena Elizabeth Photography, I’m dedicated to capturing the authentic moments that make life’s milestones so meaningful. WHAT'S NEXT?

You're having your portraits done! Yay! You're longing to have beautiful pictures, so you booked a session to capture these precious moments ... but now you're totally nervous as heck!

Don't worry! Most people feel self-conscious about being in front of a camera(me too!) But my goal is to make this a fun & relaxing experience! I've done hundreds of sessions of all kinds, and I'm here to tell you, as soon as you get that first shot clicked, the nerves will dissipate.

In the meantime,

here are a few tips for a successful session.

LETS GET STARTED
.01

No need to clean, but just try and make sure the clutter has found its way to a closet in your master bedroom and nursery. I love capturing your new family snuggling up on the bed together! Please make your bed and tidy up your bedroom. Clear nightstands and counters of clutter or distracting elements. If the master bedroom isn't ideal for photos considering tidying up another common area for snuggly group photos

PREPARE YOUR HOUSE

.02

Nothing flatters like natural light, so I prefer to use it whenever possible. Sessions are normally done mid-morning to early-afternoon when window lighting is as its best. I like to use the nursery whenever possible! I typically shoot a good portion of the session in the nursery so please have the curtains and shades open to let in lots of natural light. I also love to photograph baby with mom and dad in their bed, on the couch, anywhere comfy and snuggly.

WE LOVE NATURAL LIGHT

.03

When it comes to what to wear, the thoughts can be overwhelming! I usually recommend soft or neutral colors so the little one doesn't seem washed out. Most importantly your outfits should be comfortable to move around in and should feel like you. Baby will look the best in simple & well fitting clothes Also, I will bring a couple wrap for a little variety in addition what you pick out from their personal wardrobe.

WHAT TO WEAR

.04

It's important to keep accessories to a minimum during newborn sessions to avoid frequent adjustments or distraction. Wedding bands, small earrings, and cozy sweater are perfect for newborn sessions. Keep nails clean and tidy! Since you'll be handling your little one your hands while likely be featured in these picture more than traditional portraits! If you have the chance to treat yourself to a manicure I typically recommend a neutral and something light. We want your images to feel soft and classic.

ACCESSORIES

Nothing is worse than being tired & hangry

Most of the images I'll be shooting work
best if the baby is fed & sleeping. To
encourage this, I recommend that you do
whatever it takes to make sure baby is
nice and exhausted.
A well fed baby is a happy baby! Please
feed and burp baby right before our
Session to ensure a happy, sleepy "milk
drunk" baby. I'll also be more than happy
to take as many breaks as needed.

FINALLY

Remember this is a special day, so take in each moment, take a deep breath, and just simply be.

I can't wait to meet our new little one very soon.
